What it means
The three statewide managed care plans, BlueCare, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan and Wellpoint, cover 1,321,734 enrollees, 98% of the total. The five largest counties, Shelby (229,431), Davidson (126,312), Knox (73,738), Hamilton (62,974) and Rutherford (60,483), hold 41% of enrollment.
Enrollment is 433,003 below its June 2023 peak. Medicaid programs held enrollees in place during the federal public health emergency and resumed eligibility checks in 2023, and TennCare has shrunk since. For a provider, the TennCare count is a direct read on Medicaid volume and on how much of its payer mix runs through these plans.

TennCare publishes an enrollment workbook each month with totals by managed care plan and region and by county, sex and age band. This page reads the newest monthly workbook for plan and county detail and the statewide total from each month's report, using the yearly workbooks for past years. Counts are as first reported; TennCare notes that later retroactive enrollment can add members to a month. 2,339 enrollees are Tennessee residents temporarily living out of state and are counted in the total but not in a county.
Tennessee does not publish an explicit open license for these files. They are public records posted on tn.gov, and this page cites them as the source.
